Strategic Success for Brokerages Adopting Open Technology Platforms

(Image source: RealScout) Case study originally appeared on RealScout.com.*
Long & Foster Real Estate and Intero Real Estate Services’ decision to work with open-architecture tech MoxiWorks and RealScout pays dividends.
Technology is too often a headache for real estate brokerages, rife with buyer’s remorse, implementation disasters, and chronic low agent and consumer adoption. This directly contradicts the purpose of introducing new technology platforms to a business, yet it’s a story that’s far too common.
Two brokerages, Long & Foster Real Estate, a dominant brokerage in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, and Intero Real Estate Services, a similarly market-leading brokerage in the San Francisco Bay Area, avoided these issues, in part, by partnering with technology companies committed to an open ecosystem.
An open tech platform is one that champions the idea that relevant software platforms should work seamlessly with one another, and data should move freely as the customer wants. A closed tech platform, either in the name of an “all-inclusive” approach or even competitive considerations, creates barriers that prevent seamless feature integrations and data transportability.
Strategically, both Long & Foster and Intero Real Estate Services recognized the value of open ecosystems, and they have made technology procurement decisions accordingly. No two tech companies better represent the success of this strategy than MoxiWorks, the leading real estate technology system with the first and only true open network platform, and RealScout, the leading solution for brokerages and agents to generate more business from their “sphere of influence.”
Both MoxiWorks and RealScout have designed their platforms from the bottom-up to enable integrations with 3rd party technologies and transportability of customer-owned data. Customers that adopt either MoxiWorks or RealScout, and especially those who have adopted both solutions, have reaped the benefits of partnering with open platforms.
- Simple, minimally disruptive implementation
Although some heavy-lifting is inevitable, open platforms like MoxiWorks and RealScout are best equipped to provide a seamless transition for both admins and users alike. When Long & Foster adopted MoxiWorks, MoxiWorks’ dedicated account management team developed a customized plan for implementation and training, leading to a smooth and successful onboarding process. Later, when Long & Foster adopted RealScout, thanks to the open 2-way integration between the 2 vendors, implementation was as simple as setting up a roster sync between MoxiWorks and RealScout, which automatically provisioned accounts, set-up basic profiles, and provided for automated maintenance of the accounts.
The positive effects of an easy implementation can be seen in overall cost reductions, higher adoption, and better user account management through integrated tools.
- Increased user value from feature interoperability
Like most markets, agents at Intero generate a vast majority of their business via their “sphere of influence.” Engaging this audience is a multi-faceted effort that requires both CRM functionality as well as client collaboration functionality. Although all-inclusive solutions exist, MoxiWorks and RealScout are best-in-class solutions in their respective category. Thanks to their open platforms, instead of compromising on a particular solution, Intero could simply use both.
With MoxiEngage as the central source of client records, agents can easily SSO into RealScout to collaborate and convert their agents, knowing that incremental data is synced back into MoxiEngage. This seamless experience not only increases productivity for agents, it means clients receive more consistent and attentive customer service.
- Opportunities created by data transportability
It’s no secret that every agent, team, and even office have their own operational playbook, and especially for a brokerage as large and diverse as Long & Foster, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. One of the core benefits of an open-platform approach is the ability for it to accommodate a variety of lead-sources, marketing tools, and reporting outputs.
For Long & Foster, this means that MoxiWorks and RealScout, either directly or by pass-through, are connected with systems as diverse as: Zillow Connect, Realtor.com, Spacio, Buyside, ActivePipe, and more. This ability to accommodate a diversity of tools allows brokerages to empower their agents without reducing flexibility.
- Inherent future-proofing
One of the key concerns many brokerages have about technology procurement is the speed with which technology becomes outdated. Even the most cutting-edge systems, without constant iterations, can get left behind by more innovative companies.
The benefit of partnering with open platforms is that by integrating with innovative 3rd parties, brokerages can ensure that they aren’t getting left behind. Users, data, and workflows can be adapted to work with the latest tools, without completely abandoning legacy systems. Furthermore, since open platform companies can’t rely on high switching costs for customer loyalty, they continue to compete on innovation and value-delivery, as evidenced by both MoxiWorks’ and RealScout’s rapidly evolving offerings.
“Being an all-inclusive solution is never going to truly give a brokerage everything they need,” said York Baur, CEO of MoxiWorks. “This is why we decided early on that having a platform that lets our customers plugin the best solutions would be the ultimate route to success for each brokerage’s unique needs. RealScout is a great example of a great long-term partner that continues to help us fulfill the promise of this open platform strategy.”
RealScout Co-Founder and President Andrew Flachner added, “We share a strong conviction with MoxiWorks that brokerages should have meaningful control over their tech tools and data. While a walled-garden architecture might offer control, only when users and data can move freely between various platforms of choice, does control generate value. Our partnership with MoxiWorks exemplifies how brokerages are empowering their agents, clients, and themselves by building strategic value around their sphere of influence and data.”
The benefits discussed above are some of the most basic ones that brokerages, agents, and clients experience by partnering with open tech platforms. By rejecting the notion that software generates long-term value by locking-in their customers, open platforms empower their customers by embracing a diverse set of tools, users, and the opportunities they create.
For these reasons, Long & Foster and Intero’s decision to build their technology offering around MoxiWorks and RealScout was not only a tactical win driven by the immediate benefits of the two solutions but a strategic one that will continue to pay dividends in the future as the platforms continue to integrate and innovate, through open, transparent partnerships.
Automation: The Secret Weapon for Building Top-of-Mind Awareness

By Mercedes Santiago, Marketing Coordinator
When was the last time you reached out to your sphere with relevant content? Hopefully the answer comes quick, because after all, 41% of buyers choose a real estate agent based on a referral (source). Another stat from NAR indicates that two years after a transaction, only 23% of clients you worked with can quickly recall your name. The competition is only getting stronger to win listings, and being “found” just isn’t enough anymore. Luckily, you have technology on your side to keep you actively engaging your sphere while juggling your busy to-do list.
Automation is an agent’s secret weapon to staying in touch with their sphere before, during, and after a transaction. Nurturing your contacts with relevant information and widgets that are hyper-local is what’s in demand today. With MoxiWorks and its partners, you have access to a plethora of tools that will automate your delivery of the right content, to the right people, at the right time. Here are a few ways to keep in touch with your sphere of influence with automation:
Personalized and curated content for your clients
There’s nothing better than walking into your favorite go-to coffee spot, and the barista you see every morning finally remembers your name and order. Why? Because we simply like to be remembered. Your clients are the same. Plus, they didn’t purchase a six-dollar coffee, they invested in one the biggest purchases they’ll make in their life. It’s a big deal.
Envision your client receiving a monthly email from you that includes a market snapshot of their neighborhood, personalized just for them. Not only will you stand out by going the extra mile to keep in touch, you’ve remembered them: their email, name, neighborhood, etc. The best part? These monthly emails can be accomplished all without lifting a finger with the right automation tools. In MoxiEngage, the Neighborhood News feature gives you the ability to do just that.
Deliver content that matters to them
Imagine being able to be a fly on the wall of buyers and sellers so you can deliver content relevant to their needs and dreams. Let’s say each week you send new articles out on different topics ranging from first-time homebuying and investing in real estate to vacation home buying and retirement. Using the power of automation, leverage insights on which email recipients have clicked and read through the article and use that information as a great conversation starter for a topic of interest to them. A great example of this is MoxiWorks’ Partner, HomeActions, and their E-relationship platform.
HomeActions helps agents GET and STAY top of mind through on-demand content and widgets that fuel predictive metrics and other AI tools. Their new AI-Powered Lead Scoring service shows you who in your database is warming up for a transaction.
Integrating social media
We all know that using social media is a great way for people to connect with you. But unless it’s your best friend or a family member, they might not think to follow you! When using Neighborhood News, trigger emails, or any other form of communications with your clients, attach your social media links in it. Now, every time a contact receives an email from you, they’ll be reminded to find your business on their favorite social network. Social media is a place where clients most likely go at least one a day, so being visible on it is key.
Templated email communications
Leveraging pre-formatted content and email blast templates saves you time, automates your workflow, and allows you to reach more of your sphere more often. Tools like HomeActions, for example, will offer up templates in dozens of categories and give you the ability to add in content on just about any topic under the Real Estate sun. Featured listings, holidays, just sold, new listings, open houses… you name it. With templated email communications, you’ll always have a great reason to reach out to your sphere of influence.
Having a great relationship with your clients is obviously important. But the fact of the matter is, they don’t remember you quite like we want to believe. According to NAR’s quick stats, sellers who say they would use the same agent again is 69%, but only 24% actually do when they go to buy or sell a home (source). With automated email marketing, we can stay top of mind with clients and win more listings.

5 MoxiCloud Partners That Make Virtual Real Estate Business Easy

Krista Thomsen, Partner Manager, MoxiCloud Partnerships & Integrations
We’re in this together. Each of us is having to face unusual circumstances — but we’re not facing it alone. A wise story-teller succinctly reminds us that we can face any challenge with teamwork.
“In union, there is strength.” – Aesop
The same is true for your technology. The MoxiCloud contains some pretty fantastic and adaptable products, but it also partners with more than 50 other industry-leading integrated technologies. Like peanut butter and jelly, these partners make the MoxiCloud suite of products even better. While staying home and staying safe, we want to highlight a few of our partner tools that can help your business thrive virtually.
Spacio
You probably know Spacio as the sleekest and easiest way to capture leads at an open house – but you can use this form for digital content as well! The lead collection link lets interested parties sign-up to get more info on a listing, triggering your MoxiPresent presentation to be sent to them. Build out a virtual open house using MoxiPresent, invite people to access it through the Spacio link and you’ve effectively created an on-demand open house.
MoveEasy
MoveEasy is a comprehensive agent branded post-transaction concierge service. Agents can help their clients with all their pre and post moving tasks through a combination of online, human and Alexa automated concierge while staying top of mind. Your clients just closed, and you’d normally check-in with a physical pop-by or help them pack boxes, but it just isn’t safe to visit right now. Instead, offer them the benefit of the MoveEasy concierge service.

Home Actions
HomeActions provides tailored print and email newsletters for your sphere. Connecting your MoxiEngage contact list allows HomeActions to research and develop content around your sphere’s actual consumer analytics (think search histories, consumer profiles, etc). Bonus tip – follow HomeActions on Twitter for daily real estate news clippings! During this time, it’s more important than ever to be keeping in touch with your sphere of influence. If you haven’t already taken the time to build out your content plans for your list of contacts, HomeActions can help you create relevant materials.
REveo
In most areas you can no longer give tours in person, but REveo is a great tool that helps you create virtual showings so you can continue moving your business forward in a safe way. REveo makes it easy for you to connect buyers virtually to showings in a single click with no apps or additional technology required for buyers. You can share virtual showings with buyers from any screen – live or on-demand. The broadcast is branded with your brokerage and agent information keeping you front-and-center when sharing videos.

SocialBoost
SocialBoost (previously iTourMedia) gives you the ability to record and share your open house videos to Facebook business pages. The content will automatically play and will also auto-boost to your selected audiences, making it easier than ever before to use social media advertising. Simplifying techy processes is a great way collaborative technology will help you succeed as business interactions are moved to the digital space.
The entire tribe of humanity is faced with recognizing and adapting to this global pandemic. However, those of us in more populated cities may be having to change in different ways than those of us in rural communities. Real estate best practices are much like how we respond to pandemics — a little different in different communities. Each brokerage and each agent needs a way to communicate with their sphere and efficiently process transactions, but the tech-stack we use varies. That’s why, we at MoxiWorks, devote our innovation to an open-platofrm allowing other adaptable visionaries to partner and collaborate with our tech to create the best solution for each and every brokerage and agent.
In times like this, it is more important than ever to find ways to collaborate and stay motivated to keep your business moving. What tools are you using to help streamline your remote business? What new ways are you adapting and collaborating? We will all get through this, virtually, together.
Welcome to the MoxiCloud, Paradym!

By Tiana Baur, Marketing Manager
The forever-growing MoxiCloud just got even bigger with the latest addition of marketing software partner, Paradym! For those that don’t know, the MoxiCloud is at the heart and soul of MoxiWorks, connecting all brokerage data and tools into one point of truth. The MoxiCloud is built on an open platform model that gives brokerages the freedom to pick and choose their own tools, retain current investments, and most importantly, maintain control of their own data.
We now have 50+ partners that integrate into the MoxiCloud, such as DocuSign, Buyside, MoveEasy, QuantumDigital, and many more. We’re excited to welcome Paradym as the newest member of the MoxiCloud squad.
So, what do they do? Simple. Paradym makes marketing super easy for real estate agents with the power of automation. Here’s how they do it:
Brilliant marketing campaigns for every listing, automatically.
Paradym combines MLS listing data, text, voice, and visual effects into elegant stories, so agents can use Paradym to share those stories about client successes, properties and places, and engage more prospective buyers and sellers.
Coaching at its finest.
When you sign up for Paradym, you’re immediately connected with a success coach. You’ll get to know each other, and they’ll be able to tailor a marketing plan that fits your specific needs. Plus, you can call the coach at any time along the way.
Tell your story.
Once you get a feel for how Paradym works, you can start sharing your stories. These stories invite potential clients into your world and help keep you top of mind. You can use Paradym to tell stories about people (think client success stories!), places (think neighborhoods), and/or specific properties!
The ways you can tell your stories.
Paradym’s marketing toolkit is packed with great stuff. Agents can easily create single property sites for all or just their tops listings, listing videos, easy lead capturing and reporting, social media campaigns, and more. Agents can do it all on the go from their powerful app.
Progress is everything.
An agent dashboard allows users to constantly be tracking the progress, keeping them on track to get the most out of Paradym’s technology.
MoxiCloud + Paradym.
The MoxiCloud and Paradym integration will include SSO (single-sign-on) and API integration, which means agents will spend less time doing duplicate data entry and logging into multiple places, giving them more time to focus on what they do best: helping their clients!
Great to have you aboard, Paradym! If you’re interested in finding out more about Paradym and what it can do for your brokerages and agents, you can do so here.
